More Injured Birds Found At Costa Mesa Park; Shooter Sought

(Michelle Berger, via Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center)COSTA MESA, CA — Costa Mesa authorities found more injured ducks and geese at TeWinkle Park over the weekend, days after four birds died of pellet gun wounds at the park, the Costa Mesa Police Department said. The injured birds were taken to the nonprofit Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center. All of the birds but for one peking duck died of their wounds, a spokesperson for the nonprofit said. The number of additional birds found over the weekend could not be disclosed due to the ongoing investigation, Lt. Ed Everett told Patch.

A mallard, a Pekin duck named Darryl and two Muscovy ducks known as Mr. Chipper and Grace were found dead at the park, Debbie McGuire, executive director of the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center, said in a news release. “My initial reaction was to wonder how hollow and cruel the mind of the person is who murdered these innocent animals,” McGuire said. “What treacherous thoughts and feelings motivated them?
