South Coast League boys basketball opener is a giant one

League play begins within the South Coast League this week and opens with an excellent matchup.

Tesoro, No. 11 in the Orange County High 25, performs at No. 13 Capistrano Valley in a 7 p.m. recreation Wednesday within the league opener for the 2 league favorites. Tesoro is 17-3 total and Capistrano Valley is 12-4.

The five-team South Coast League consists of San Clemente, San Juan Hills and Trabuco Hills.

Capistrano Valley and Tesoro have deep rosters led by standout seniors Carson Brown of Tesoro and Efe Gucoglu of Capistrano Valley.

Brown, a 6-3 guard, was All-Orange County first staff final season. Brown was an MVP of the Seashore Bash event final month and made the all-tournament staff on the Tustin Traditional post-Christmas event. On the Tustin Traditional he scored 21 factors within the Titans’ semifinals win over Tustin and within the Orange County North/South Problem scored 15 factors with 11 rebounds in a win over Cypress.

Gucoglu, a 6-4 guard, led Capistrano Valley to the championship of the Design Professional Division of the Desert Vacation Traditional post-Christmas event at Rancho Mirage. He scored 40 factors within the championship recreation win over Portola. Gucoglu averaged 22 factors and 6 rebounds throughout the Cougars’ 4 video games within the Desert Vacation Traditional whereas capturing 62 % on two-point photographs and 50 % on 3-pointers.
