COSTA MESA, CA — Costa Mesa’s new pet rescue prepares to open their doors Saturday at 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. in a grand opening of their animal adoption center, the Los Angeles Times Reported.
“The buzz right now is, ‘When are you going to open? When can we start volunteering?’ ” Christy Hammond, adoption center manager for facility operator Priceless Pets, told the Times. Priceless Pets, located at 1536 Newport Blvd. is a nonprofit rescue organization. Costa Mesa now contracted with Priceless Pets as their animal adoption service provider, and the facility will receive and care for the city’s lost and abandoned animals until they find their forever homes.Find out what’s happening in Newport Beach-Corona Del Marwith free, real-time updates from Patch.Let’s go!“We’re in the business of saving lives; that’s basically how we like to put it,” said Lisa Price, the group’s executive director to the Times. The pet facility is over 2,000 square feet, and can house 25 dogs and at most 20 cats. It has play areas, cat-condos, dog kennels, and a large grooming area.Find out what’s happening in Newport Beach-Corona Del Marwith free, real-time updates from Patch.Let’s go!Mayor Pro Tem John Stephens discussed the switch to Priceless Pets from Newport Center Animal Hospital and Pet Hotel Suites at Tuesday’s City Council meeting. “One year ago, [city] staff was working overtime to try to put in place an emergency animal shelter and adoption service for the city of Costa Mesa,” Mayor Pro Tem John Stephens said. “They did an absolutely fabulous job, and this opening of the Orphanage is the final piece of the puzzle.”Price said that both residents and the city council have been “very supportive” and “welcoming” of the venture thus far.
