(Google Maps)NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A political campaign opposing a ballot measure that would allow Newport Beach voters to elect the mayor posted and quickly deleted a video on social media over the weekend depicting the shooting of a fictional Newport Beach mayor, the Daily Pilot reported. The video was shared by the Stop the Power Grab — No on B campaign and featured an actor playing the mayor of Newport Beach. The fictional mayor was depicted as supporting the ballot measure before being shot multiple times, the Pilot reported. Measure B would amend Newport Beach’s city charter to allow voters to vote for the mayor to a two-term limit. Currently, the City Council weighs in on who among themselves will serve as the mayor each year.
